This is a page that documents the music lyrics that I reference throughout my blog. Here you will find the quote used in the post dated, the name of the band it comes from and a link to where you can find out more.
Enjoy!
6/27/08- Today’s post references the classic Petula Clark song “Downtown” from the album Downtown. For some reason, I always thought this song was from a musical.
5/15/08 - For today’s post, I referenced the famous Who song “Won’t Get Fooled Again” from the rock dinosaur classic rock album Who’s Next. The album is also famous for the photo of the boys in the band taking a piss on a gigantic concrete monolith.
4/30/08 - Once again, not a music reference. Instead the title of this post refers to the only good part from the painfully disappointing movie The Godfather III. I don’t even want to link to it.
4/22/08 - Not a music reference for this post, but instead references the classic line “All your Base Are Belong to Us,” a broken English and Internet meme classic. For more info, see this.
4/10/08 - This post celebrating the work of Dina Hodara references a line from the classic Bob Marley song “Trenchtown Rock,” found on the album Live!. Great work Dina and great work Bob!
4/9/08- Today’s long awaited post reps the lyrics from the old Creedence Clearwater Revival song “Commotion,” which was the B-side of the great song “Green River.” Man, bands just don’t look like this anymore!
3/13/08 - Today’s post references a lyric from the song “5446/ball and chain” from Sublime’s first album 40oz to Freedom. Rest in peace Bradley.
3/10/08 - To recognize the wifey and I’s move to Great Neck, I felt Kayne West’s vibe and quoted his song “Good Life” from his album Graduation. Also, his blog is freaking sweet, which is why I added it to the blogroll.
2/4/08 - Brady getting destroyed by the Giants is compared to the song “Fake Empire” by The National, off of their brilliant album Boxer.
1/27/07- The title of today’s post comes from the song “Neighborhood #1″ by Arcade Fire. It comes from their fantastic debut album Funeral.
1/26/08- This post references the song “Kansas City” from the musical Oklahoma by Rodgers and Hammerstein. With rights now available to perform in your living room!
1/20/08 - The title of the Hershey’s post is from the song “Chocolate City” from the album of the same name by Parliament. The other reference, of course, is from the song “Poison” by Bell, Biv, DeVoe as interpreted by the cast of Scrubs. Unless Wikipedia has failed me again, DeVoe is now a big time real estate magnate in Atlanta. Balla!
1/17/08 - The Amtrak strike post references a line from the song “Driver 8″ from the album Fables of the Reconstruction by R.E.M. Don’t be sad, Michael!
1/15/08 - Today’s post references the Beck song “Pay No Mind (Snoozer) from the album Mellow Gold. Hard to believe that this one time “loser” is now caught up in this strange mess.
1/12/08 - The NJ Turnpike post naturally makes reference to the Bruce Springsteen song “State Trooper” from the album Nebraska. From what I’ve heard, the album is much better than the state.
1/9/08 - Today’s post references the Clipse song “Blaze of Glory” from The Neptunes Clones album. It’s da black card era!
1/3/08 - This post is titled from the chorus of the famous Steelers Wheel song “Stuck in The Middle With You” These days, most people know the song from the last time they likely saw Michael Madsen in a film.
12/31/07 - For the last post of the year, the title comes from the Hall & Oates hit “Kiss On My List” from their album Voices. And the winner for the year’s least masculine album cover goes to…
12/28/07 - Today’s post title “Sailing, Takes me awayto where I’ve always heard it could be” comes from Christopher Cross’ hit Sailing, from the album of the same name. Smooth bastard got this hit in under the wire, just before appearances really mattered on MTV in the early 80s.
12/25/07 - In the BBC post today, the title of the post comes from the song Exdous, the title track of the Bob Marley album Exdous. In fact, it is the album’s 30th year anniversary this year.
12/24/07 - In links post today, a brief reference to indie fav Sufjan Stevens and his 4th album Illinois. For those who don’t know, Sufjan is attempting to do an album inspired by every state in the union. Here’s hoping that his next choice is Jersey.
12/23/07 - “Idrink up all the Hennessey ya got on ya shelf so just let me introduce myself” - Digital Underground, from the song The Humpty Dance off of the seminal album Sex Packets. Doowutchayalike!
12/22/07 - New York Cares…Got to be some more change in my life - Interpol, from the song NYC from their fantastic debut album Turn On the Bright Lights
12/22/07 - The name of this blog- Long Island Calling is a spoof of the title of the classic Clash album London Calling. The subtitle of the blog is a paraphrase from a lyric in the title track, where the actual line is “Phony Beatlemania has bitten the dust.” So take that Ringo!
